a short letter you'll never read

Dear Mother

(a letter you'll never read)

母亲 (Mother),

It's been about sixteen years since you last held me. It's been fifteen since I left the country.

Do you miss me?

I would have liked to grow up with you. To run back to you after a long day at school, to speak your language, to know your name, to recognize your face and voice.

But that wasn't an option; I know.

I know that, with a heavy heart, you cradled me in your arms for a while knowing that you'd have to let me go. You lived in one of the poorest parts of the country.

A year later, I was adopted by an amazing American family.

I'm sure you'd be ecstatic to hear this. I've been given every opportunity I could ever ask for. They've loved me for you, I've an education, I've never gone hungry.

And we've never forgotten you.

You will always have a special place in our hearts.

我爱你 (I love you)

This is above and beyond. It is so tender and sweet. That coupled with sensitivity and understanding makes you stand out as a very special person. Great letter!!!!!!!
