a short journal about sound

An Absence of Sound and Abundance of Thought

There's a reason I always have the radio running.

Whether I'm cramming for a final, cleaning my room, or drawing, I'm listening to some sort of noise: music, podcasts, audiobooks.

It drives my family up a wall.

They yell at me, "turn off the music!" and "why must you always be listening to something?"

Well, I guess it's because

the second that sound is removed, I am unable to focus.

I'd been told it hinders my productivity to add these distractions, but I've wired myself to multitask--to process two or more things at a time. I can't function otherwise because

My thoughts take over: the worst distraction.

And that is the most awful experience.

I relate to this so much (kind of funny because I'm listening to music as I read this). My mom always says musics distracts me learning, but I think the opposite — it really facilitates my learning.
