I wrote this for a friend who misses autumn

Autumn

She wrapped both hands around her favorite mug, ignoring the handle completely.

The warmth of it brought life back to her palms, and energy surged towards the tips of her fingers.

She sipped the tea without waiting for it to cool, finding comfort in the burning sensation spreading across her tongue.

As yet another leaf fell to the ground her smile grew ever-wider.

It stretched from ear to ear like a loose thread being pulled from a sweater.

While nature began to go to sleep in preparation for winter—she was waking up for the very first time.
