For @thepoemfight’s finale, this poem uses the metaphor of lemons as memories: sweet, sour, or rotten, and how even with all the bad memories, a good one will be bound to come your way.

sugars of lemon

picked up one by one,

picked up one by one, the tree grow mini suns

picked up one by one, the tree grow mini suns branded with a vibrant green leaf at the tip

sour to purse your lips

sour to purse your lips or maybe the sweeter ones to lick

sour to purse your lips or maybe the sweeter ones to lick off the roof of your mouth

or some that burn old scars

or some that burn old scars after thinking they had healed

baskets toss up lemons to be cut

baskets toss up lemons to be cut which memories were sweet,

baskets toss up lemons to be cut which memories were sweet, sour,

baskets toss up lemons to be cut which memories were sweet, sour, or rotten

yellow fresh right off the tree,

yellow fresh right off the tree, slowly fades as time falls away

puckered mouths yearn for the sweet,

puckered mouths yearn for the sweet, but the bad will fade over time

before then,

before then, know memories of good come your way,

before then, know memories of good come your way, as sugars of lemon

before then, know memories of good come your way, as sugars of lemon dance jovial in mind and tongue
