This poem is about eyedrops and how I grew up from being young to falling into depression.

eyedrops cover tears

When I was little I pretended to cry

When I was little I pretended to cry After putting in eyedrops my cheeks weren’t dry

When I was little I pretended to cry After putting in eyedrops my cheeks weren’t dry But I’d still laugh and smile the burning settling in a little while.

My eyes were itchy, red spreading in the vein I asked for relief from the pain

My eyes were itchy, red spreading in the vein I asked for relief from the pain Drip Drip

My eyes were itchy, red spreading in the vein I asked for relief from the pain Drip Drip Drip Drip

“I feel a lot better.”

Today I put eyedrops in my cheeks getting wetter

Today I put eyedrops in my cheeks getting wetter Tears mixed with the drips “I don’t feel better.”

Today I put eyedrops in my cheeks getting wetter Tears mixed with the drips “I don’t feel better.” My smile left a scar where it once was that relief of pain didn’t come in an applause.

My mind is stew, marinating in my head

My mind is stew, marinating in my head Face it, I’m not that girl who dreamed in bed

My mind is stew, marinating in my head Face it, I’m not that girl who dreamed in bed Now I put in eyedrops, staying awake trying to make my tears fake.

Falling onto pillows bottle on the table

Falling onto pillows bottle on the table Maybe I’ve overused it it’s fading, the label

Falling onto pillows bottle on the table Maybe I’ve overused it it’s fading, the label But my eyes and insides are still burning eyedrops, please don’t stop working.
