(1) What he was taught;

by letspretend

Don't be afraid.

As a man in the making, his father would always tell him to not be scared of anything; that girls didn't like a boy who was frightened easily. So he listened.

Be strong.

No one likes a weak boy. You have to be strong and have a good body in order for someone to appreciate you. (It helps if you're good looking too.) So he listened.

Don't cry.

He was taught not to cry; because boys don't cry. It's best to leave the act to the woman. So when he was lonely, he didn't cry. When he was hurt, he didn't cry. Like this, he listened.

This ended before my expectations did. This was very well written. Remember this, if the poem is well constructed as this one is, you may speak your mind and have it heard in a better light than in a sloppy work of poetry. I was brought up the way you describe. It is always up to you to sculpt the man you want to be. This was a great poem.

how tragic it is that we have to live up with certain standards to validate ourselves. great work though, this was a very good topic and you touched it short and very very very clear.
