Sherlock and Watson relax after the solving of yet another case.

Sherlock: The Realm of Doubt Chapter 1 - Letters Dipped in Ink

It was a bright, sunny day, quite exquisite if I do say so myself.

It was a bright, sunny day, quite exquisite if I do say so myself. I was reading the daily paper while Watson was pompously prancing around the room in an almost child-like daze. For once, I can understand his enthusiasm, we had just solved what was quite possibly our biggest case of the year.

5 murders, all with the same weapon at the same time. It wasn’t unsolvable, of course, no mystery really is.

“You know what? I don’t think I ever will. This job is exhilarating!”, exclaims Watson in a cheerful tone.

“You know what? I don’t think I ever will. This job is exhilarating!”, exclaims Watson in a cheerful tone. It is at this moment that we both hear a light knock on the door, clearly without malicious intent as far as I can tell.

Due to it still being the later part of the morning, I quickly deduce that it must be the mail. This is a little odd as we don't really get mail outside of the monthly bills.

All I find is a single parcel, with a letter tied to it, I make a quick note that the letter appears to be stained with ink and that the parcel is slightly damaged, most likely from the journey it took to get here.

“Dear Sherlock”, it reads,

“Dear Sherlock”, it reads, “I have been studying your career over the years and I must say that you sir, are one of the best detectives I’ve ever seen!

“Dear Sherlock”, it reads, “I have been studying your career over the years and I must say that you sir, are one of the best detectives I’ve ever seen! It saddens my heart to say that I must ask for your assistance with some rather strange sightings in my humble town of Alfriston.

Enclosed are the case details as well as some incentive for you in order to persuade you to help in my endeavor.

I then begin to open the parcel and experience a rare moment of laughter for what I find inside.

Thank you for reading! If you want to be notified when future chapters come out, please let me know! The character of Sherlock is very hard to write so if I didn't do a good job, please let me know of that as well.
