maybe relatable, but my growing up is still in progress.

Things About Growing Up in California

by lazy

The Dichotomy of Northern and Southern California

California is essentially two different states separated by a massive field with farms and cows. No one really knows what happens there.

The Spanish Missions and El Camino Real

In elementary school, we built model missions and dressed up as Native Americans for a history unit. Driving up the coast comes with flashbacks to fourth grade.

Food Runs

Anyone with a driver's license is everybody's best friend. After school boba runs are actually the best thing.

FOMO is Real

So many cool things are happening all around, but they always have a tendency to be a little too far away, fall on weekdays, or be hella expensive *cough cough Coachella*.

Most schools are open air plans, so looking at any large single-building school is weird.

Gold Dust or Bust

'So grab your picks and shovels, friends, it's all gonna change real soon.'

The Drought

It's no longer covered in mainstream media but, trust us, we still need water. Our rivers and lakes and plants are sad.

Sunsets are Spectacular

And people on Instagram and Snapchat have them well-documented.

i grew up on the east coast so this is all p foreign to me! there's also not many bubble tea places here, so after-school bubble tea runs are a no-go; i envy you TT TT (we call it bubble tea here on the east coast, but i have friends from cali who call it boba - it may also be a geographical thing too ^_^)

@marino I'm convinced there's a difference i.e. bubble tea = tea that is mixed/shaken with stuff in it (could be tapioca, but also can include fruit and jellies) but boba tea = (bubble) tea with boba in it. conclusion: boba tea.

@lazy lol did you have the mound of dirt and you'd dig and then use a pan? We were in the river for hours before I found a tiny tiny spec
