a poem of unrequited love

Promise of the Dawn

Trembling in the silence, my heart beats in a familiar rhythm.

As I walk through the darkness at the start of something beautiful, I feel you.

You are here beside me, yet you are far away like the promise of the dawn.

But as long as you are here, I have nothing to fear.

I call to you, but you pay no heed to me.

We walk upon different paths as you begin to fade into the bright future.

I know there can be no solemn goodbyes between us: only sweet hellos.

I know that now.

This thing called love swells in my chest and in the song, I sing.

One day, when the time is right, I will sing to you my song of eternity.

One day the light will come home into our arms and to our souls.

Maybe then, on that new day, I will see you smile.

Stumbling through the silence, my heart beats in an unfamiliar rhythm.

As I walk through the darkness at the ending of something beautiful, I see you.

You are here beside me, yet you are far away like the promise of the dawn.

But as long as you are here in my memory, I have nothing to fear.
