Victor, the wild boy

the wild boy

the drumbeat sounds

and the video clips to the boy

he bangs his head against a tree

rhythmically

repeatedly

over and over and over

in time to the low tone of the bass

the boy who was abandoned in the woods

forced - abused - into a society

which didn't understand him

misremembered by time itself

his essence

his spirit

what about him that we know was actually himself?

oh darling, Victor

darling sweet child

they don't understand you

neither do I

nor will I pretend to

all alone in the woods

they say you were abandoned by your mother

most likely out there for something like

five, maybe seven years

no one knows what became of you

did you stay with the doctor -

who mistreated you?

did you stay within this society?

become a real "modern man?"

did you find a wife?

have kids?

make something of yourself within the defines of the culture?

or did you become free?

what did you find for yourself, out there?

all alone in the woods

god, where was your sanctuary - oh wild boy

wild, free boy of the woods

did they know why you were wild?

it was not because you were "untamed" as it were

it was because you were free

utterly

truly

free
