The wistfulness of never being able to tie loose ends, because of an unexpected passing. Everyone always thinks they have more time.

Seventeen

I was only seventeen

A girl stuck

In-between

I didn't know

Anything

I remember when

I met you

Baggy shirts

And

Gym shoes

Two kids trying

To get through

School

I was vapid

And boring

You were

Edgy and cool,

Someone Else's

And you were too

nice

Never tried to

Be more than

a friend

Until

We were both

Alone

And

Broken

Left and hurt by

The people we

Loved

I let you in,

You accepted me

Exactly as I was

No matter how I

Hurt you

Broke you

Showed you

I was unworthy

An

Indecisive

Flighty

Frivolous

Little

Girl

The last time

I saw you

You were with

Someone new

You came to me

For help

You lost yourself

In her

Like you tended to do,

I tried to offer you my hand

Too deep

Quickly

Sinking

Into

The

Sand

But

She made sure

We never spoke

Again

The last time

We hugged

I didn't know

It would be

The last time

I'm so sorry

And now I

Can't even tell you

Myself.
