a withering Australian night

by kateurquhart

the road is melting

the beads of sweat covering your back are deeper and saltier than an ocean

the only thing stopping you from drowning in warm, putrid perspiration is the scarce whisper of a breeze trailing through an open window

an oven-like heat pervades every gasping, rasping breath you take

the screaming buzz of mosquitoes outside the wire screen of your window drags you into a heat-ridden coma
