The starship shuddered as it broke through light speed. Henry gripped the control panel as he watched the various lights and apparatuses tell him that they were in danger.
The ship was gaining speed, more speed then he had anticipated from the simulations he had spent his life pouring over.
Out of the corner of his eye he watched as his aging partner pull the 'brake' and flip the beacon on.
"No change." Henry croaked, the tightness in his chest threatened to burst.
A second grinding quake rocked the ship. Henry stared out onto the view screen at the lines of stars, watching as the very fabric of space twisted around them.
Henry pulled the brake again and again hoping for some sort of change from the power outputs but the panels showed the same readings they did a moment ago.
He felt the tap of his partners hand beckoning for his attention, looking up he followed the older mans gaze back to the view-screen. The stars were gone.
"Did we stop?"
His partner didn't answer eyes fixed onto the screen, Henry huffed and checked the engines, power still showed that they were increasing speed.
He felt the rumble grow underneath his feet, adrenaline rushed through his veins as a response.
He flicked the switches that would release the engine room from the main body of the starship and pressed the confirmation key.
Red lights filled the cockpit and they lurched forward into the view screen.
