Unspoken thoughts

Road Trips

By Atara Rainer

We rise after sunset, The wind rushes through your amber curls, As we drift down endless highways.

"A river never looked so pretty," you'd say, And I'd smile, Because you were more breathtaking than any river I'd seen.

We'll stop in a diner in the middle of nowhere, And silently look out onto the desert beyond, Where everything seems possible and impossible, for an hour and a half.

"Have you ever thought about wandering far away, To a place where no one knows you?" "So many times. I'll think 'I don't want people to remember me', I just want to be alone."

After that, I never did get to see you again, So I spend my time silently driving by the places we visited, Wondering whether I'll see you again some day.
