The sun rises and the horizon bleeds with a newfound purpose.
A shadow begets fear in the hearts of all the men below.
A wing’s beat sounds like thunder overhead.
Expecting the company to cower in fear,
I am surprised when it renews their strength.
As the beast grows closer I realize,
Not all the tales have been true.
The ones speaking of the horror of seeing it.
Not of the beauty that I am glimpsing.
The scales that sparkle with each miniscule movement
And the great breath of fire that escapes,
Are as alluring as anything I ever seen.
And nothing short of terrifying.
