Those words played on a loop inside her head. The blind trust she once gave to those around her disappeared. How can anyone recover from betrayal? She truly believed they never did. For her, at least, this wound would never heal completely.
She tossed to her side and hugged her blankets. She wanted to cry. To scream. To do something. But tears would no longer flow. The numbness she tried so hard to avoid flooded her veins.
So, this is what heartbreak feels like.
"So, he's back?"
"Yeah. I just seen him the other day."
She nodded her head as her gaze pierced the floor. Her stomach tumbled into itself as she remembered their last encounter. She bit the inside of her cheek, recalling the man she had adored so much.
"He asked about you... think you'll go see him?"
A smile tugged at her lips. The emotion laced with his very name made her twitch.
