The first poem I wrote as an adult and the first I have chosen to share with the world. The other side of unrequited love and the most difficult decision I have ever made.

Unrequited

It's almost 10 years since my world fell apart.

But you showed me new horizons, fixed my aching heart.

The first time we met, I was only a child

You were an island of peace, in an ocean, so wild.

I don't want your love to be unrequited.

But no matter how much I try to fight it,

I can't bring back those feelings of yesterday.

And the harder I push, the further I drift away.

I long for the time when our love was sincere,

When I'd hear every word and dry every tear.

When together we'd laugh and together, we'd cry,

But now when I tell you I love you, I know it's a lie.

I don't want your love to be unrequited.

But no matter how much I try to fight it,

I can't bring back those feelings of yesterday.

And the harder I push, the further I drift away.

The road has been long and despite all the pain,

For a long time, we managed to dance in the rain.

But my love, all that damage has taken its toll,

I must go on without you to find my lost soul.
