When two hands never meet - A Short story - Halloween

There she was staring at the clock ticking down the seconds until the end of class. A seemingly average day.

On her way home Maria was walking past the old watch shop when suddenly the door mysteriously started rattling in the wind. Curiosity got the better of her. So, she strolled on in.

She looked around at all the time pieces the room was void of life with the sound of ticking clocks niggling at her ear.

Maria lifted a box down from a shelf and blew away the dust. It read: 'love until the end of time'.

She opened the box and looked inside it was a time piece with the picture of a handsome man in the opposite side to the time piece.

Tall dark and handsome, she wanted him, she wanted the timepiece. She looked at the price and it said $25 she left the money on the side and walked from the shop.

Upon arriving home she was playing with the watch and realised there was a no way to set the time and that when she clicked the switch it merely stopped the timepiece.

So, she left it on the side and read a book.

She finished the book, another book and another. The sun was still blazing and her mother yet to be home. She looked outside the window and noticed a bird held in mid-flight.

She looked down everything was still.

The timepiece had stopped time.

She clicked the switch once more and the bird fluttered on the horizon.

She let out a spluttering laugh and giggle. What potential she wondered.

She walked downstairs and waited for her mother, but she realised the switch had clicked in her pocket and had ended up waiting for endless hours.

Maria woke up the next morning clicked the snooze button on her alarm and clicked the switch and had the best snooze.

She strolled to college with plenty of time spare and sat at her desk. She played havoc and mischief of all kinds with that watch for that and many days after. She slept in, she read endlessly.

She stared into the eyes of her inattentive boyfriend for hours.

Soon she became reliant on the watch and decided to take a holiday She wandered for a time that she was unaware of and lost the timepiece.

As, soon as she found it, she returned to college and sat down.

Dishevelled and distraught after that near miss of a situation. Her boyfriend turned to her and said is that a grey hair, you look so rough today?

She turned to him and in despair and dropped dead she was 70 years old. She had read a thousand books and walked a thousand meadows, but she had never known his touch.

The hands of the clock finally met. Although her and his hand never would again. He picked up the watch and noticed her picture in the timepiece and a tear drop fell and stopped in mid-air.
