You think you're all grown up now, a calm and steady adult who is independent and courageous? But the anxious child you used to be is still inside you, brooding. A poem I wrote in 2017.

Twins

Twins by Jasmine P. Antwoine

You managed to fool everyone into thinking you're alive

You managed to fool everyone into thinking you're alive And worthy of loving.

But not me.

But not me. I'm your twin born from the same body,

But not me. I'm your twin born from the same body, I'm the voice inside your head.

You may hope you can go through life

You may hope you can go through life Without anyone knowing who you really are,

You may hope you can go through life Without anyone knowing who you really are, Posing into different lovely characters,

You may hope you can go through life Without anyone knowing who you really are, Posing into different lovely characters, Hiding your true empty self...

You're not fooling me.

Your childhood tears are still with you today.

That empty soul has grown a full black hole.

You are the same lifeless self you were years ago.

Nothing has really changed

Except you're better at lying to yourself.

Same sorrows that tormented your childhood dreams

Are pouring into your adulthood abyss.
