The visitor that arrives at your home out of the blue.
The surprise knock at the door,
Your heart drops,
You should have had the foresight to know it would come
But you were distracted by optimism and thoughts of what could have become.
Like a frequent yet uninvited guest,
You came out of the blue,
Yet unlike the last time my heart welcomes you,
I CHOOSE to sit with you,
Get to KNOW you
LEARN from you,
But not accept
I do all these things in preparation
So that at the next painful knock
My heart knows what to expect.
