You're isolated from the world. The room may be full of people, but you're lonely.
A poem about being alone.

Alone

by ivoryannalise

You're sitting all by yourself,

On the bus and at lunch.

All who pass you never spare you a single glance.

You're alone.

All alone.

Every hour of the day.

Alone.

The word fills you up inside,

But you feel nothing,

Because you're alone.

All alone.

@shana Thank you for feeling it too. Stories fill up your life as you get older and there is never a complete void.

@bernardwindwil Aww! Thank you so much for sharing that with me. :) And you're right. There are more ways to be alone, than being lonely. Sometimes being alone is peaceful. And I'm glad you love that line. It's one of my favorites.

@ivoryannalise You have caught the gist of one side of the coin of alone. I love "The word fills you up inside." I had to keep going back to read it again. That phrase is majestic. I had a girlfriend once about 50 years ago. She was French living and attending the University of Munich, Germany. She spoke no English words to me. We conversed, when necessary, in German, French, and Spanish. We were close to love. At the time, I could not allow myself to love. I did not want her to hurt. I was a member of an army at war. I was sent away to that war again in the middle of the night. I never got to say goodbye. I never saw her again. I looked but could not find her. It was an empty feeling of being alone but, not lonely. I had her face her hair her smell and her touch.

@shana That's true! No matter how lonely the world may seem, there's always someone who cares.
