She entered the darkened house with caution.

If someone or something was near she wouldn't be able to hear them.
The darkness was split by the lightening outside.
She was sure she saw something move in the corner.
She started to step backwards to exit the house.
She let out a scream as she backed into something.
It was only the door jam.
Again, the lightening and the corner now looked empty.
