Trigger Warning.

Hey dudes <3 Was deciding what to write about today and I heard my mom talking to my aunt on the phone about a guy who lives on my street who abused his partner for years in secret and recently went to jail for it.

I don't know why, but that inspired something, probably because I was listening to one of Halsey's songs, 'Graveyard'. (Link in description.) Thankfully, the woman and her children are now safe but it goes to show how much a secret can be concealed.

Here's a poem about living through tough times and moving on after it. Also, I will be writing a load more poems inspired by songs, unfortunately, so watch this space. :P Thank you for reading, stay well <3

Some words are still like sand in my teeth,

Some words are still like sand in my teeth, the man grips her neck into a green bottle,

Some words are still like sand in my teeth, the man grips her neck into a green bottle, she is still picking glass.

Where the stairs

Where the stairs exploded against her head.

Some words

Some words knock planets out of orbit.

Some words knock planets out of orbit. Correction.

She is still tearing star debris from her skin.

The sound a body makes,

The sound a body makes, hitting the floor

The sound a body makes, hitting the floor is a thump of a ring,

The sound a body makes, hitting the floor is a thump of a ring, of billions of small chunks

The sound a body makes, hitting the floor is a thump of a ring, of billions of small chunks of ice and rock

floating on a lake.

Tender yellow,

Tender yellow, unbroken yet,

Tender yellow, unbroken yet, but time takes fists

Tender yellow, unbroken yet, but time takes fists to every mouth full of teeth.

Promise,

Promise, you'll still know her name,

Promise, you'll still know her name, know her body inching away,

the struggle being a fight to lose.

Some words,

Some words, I still don't know

Some words, I still don't know the meaning of,

Some words, I still don't know the meaning of, except

escape.

"It's funny how/ the warning signs can feel like they're butterflies." -Graveyard, Halsey.
