A poem inspired by my own mental health, which I wrote when I was feeling low, but I hope you find some comfort in this. Thank you <3
(I'll also link some songs in the comments ^^)

mornings are the worst

You search your face in the mirror

while brushing your teeth,

the lines in your head are stapled in place

as the seconds swirl down the drain,

as faces spring from beneath the bed.

The songs you skip from your playlist

The songs you skip from your playlist remind you of when

The songs you skip from your playlist remind you of when you outgrew your dreams

The songs you skip from your playlist remind you of when you outgrew your dreams and they paused,

The songs you skip from your playlist remind you of when you outgrew your dreams and they paused, shoulders touching the doorframe

The songs you skip from your playlist remind you of when you outgrew your dreams and they paused, shoulders touching the doorframe with a grin you don't recognise,

hopes leaving

in a clash of teeth,

smoke and mirrors,

so you brush as if your life depends on it.

The tongue begs you to keep the taste of misery,

heavy and unblinking

heavy and unblinking like petrol in grass fields;

but no matter how long you spend with your cheek

to the blue touch of the bathroom sink,

this will be the story of the one who lives.

When newspapers merge into black spots in visions

and you hope you are not another statistic

fished open for pity,

hook line sinker.

The whites of the plughole rolling over.

I want to learn to lose myself and lay my body in blankets,

I want to learn to lose myself and lay my body in blankets, hold my voice as my own,

I want to learn to lose myself and lay my body in blankets, hold my voice as my own, fill the glass and not force it down,

fill the glass and not force it down,

fill the glass,

fill the glass, brush my teeth,

fill the glass, brush my teeth, move the hair from my face

fill the glass, brush my teeth, move the hair from my face and walk to the kitchen warm

when the toaster decides to finally wake up.

(i.n.)

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and I wanted to write a couple of poems about it. This actually wasn't written today, I wrote this a week or two ago when I was going through a bit of a rough patch and I finished it today because again, I am going through another rough patch. :P

Let's just say this: it takes a lot to turn your life around from when you feel the lowest of lows and even more, when it's continuous. So if anyone here is fighting those feelings daily, be it once, twice or however many times, I am immensely proud of you and you are stronger than you think. <3

Thank you for reading, take care xx
