A poem for the New Zealand mosque shootings, with a message in the end from me. The power of remembrance and the need for justice. <33 (First image from Pinterest,)

For The Fallen Petals

From a garden of peace,

From a garden of peace, You all grew.

From a garden of peace, You all grew. Through spring, your petals

From a garden of peace, You all grew. Through spring, your petals Bloomed bold and intense.

And that day,

And that day, When the harsh winter came,

And that day, When the harsh winter came, Those buds that flourished

And that day, When the harsh winter came, Those buds that flourished In the winking sunlight,

Those buds fought the frost,

Those buds fought the frost, Your tenacity showing, shining

Those buds fought the frost, Your tenacity showing, shining More than all the diamonds in the world.

And though those florets,

And though those florets, The blossoms,

And though those florets, The blossoms, (crown of the crop),

And though those florets, The blossoms, (crown of the crop), Though their colour paled;

They lived on in the hearts of others,

They lived on in the hearts of others, As the blossoms that fought

They lived on in the hearts of others, As the blossoms that fought In the frozen ground.

... It is becoming clear that the victims of the shootings were brave and selfless until the end. Many are thought to have fought off and even stand before the attacker to save others. People who they had no obligation to, people who they just met in prayer.

This is what the true faith of Islam is: a peaceful community. This is the true meaning of humanity: selflessness and bravery. I hope we all send our prayers, thoughts and love to the victims, the survivors and their families. Inshallah, we shall rise stronger from this.
