For the Poetry Slam... Although I fear as if this poem is trying to be too many things at once. (also: here's to hoping the tagging works)

Our promises were as permanent as stick on tattoos

by Housecat

I find words to be...

as fleeting as a baby's breath, a bird's wings, or my fragile and recycled dreams (and maybe a few, cowardly fathers and mothers too)

Sounding as intricate melodies in every language

This hum in your body is jump started, there is joy

They taste...

saccharine, when I speak with loving adoration When those compliments and practiced pleasantries roll from my tongue

The spiced and savory, when armies of passion rush forward, climbing from my throat My vocal chords swelling

The astringent, when insults and anger gallop past my lips

rancid milk

Nauseating, when salted with tears And the words delve into broken sounds The rhythm lost

Or the blandness that plagues my taste buds,

when I say nothing for days on end And the silence drills into me

I never understood how all could be said,

Yet wiped away again

How we were fat with long said metaphors and puns

But then thin of our own thoughts

But then these words that were syrup, thick in my mouth

left As those vowels and consonants, tumbled right out

Originality had found it's way

On a chilly September day

And I want to remember all of it

Every letter, every question, every incited laugh Every moment cataloged

I want it stenciled in my mind,

Written in a ridiculous font

forever

These words that I cannot stutter or stumble on paper

However, my dream is as hopeless as the romantic's

And only seen in the pure light of the moon

But I'll stay tuned

A thousand forevers from now

I absolutely love the ending; it is extremely powerful!! I am in love with the syrup line and with page 10. It is beautifully done.
