They both were screaming when they were separated. It was pitiful to see them trying to fight against their captors, one of them breaking free for just a second... It was enough to dash forward and barely - just barely - touch the tips of the other one's finger.

The general felt the burning, disapproving gaze of the 'Demon' on his back, as he watched that pathetic reenactment of Romeo and Juliet, a little behind the line of soldiers.

"Don't stare at me like that. It's too dangerous, you know it"

"You are the one who will have to answer for that" The Demon answered.

"...I don't know what you are talking about. And frankly I don't even want to"

"Say that to the gods"

Just what part of 'I don't even want to' slipped that guy's mind? Hard to say. He was just glad he wasn't trying to interfere.

Just what part of 'I don't even want to' slipped that guy's mind? Hard to say. He was just glad he wasn't trying to interfere. The Demon tended to do just whatever the hell he wanted, and being such a powerful guy, the general usually could not stop him.

This time, it was important that he kept out of it. The things said about those two, the prophecies... The General was a skeptic man. He wasn't too eager on trusting those prophets and oracles, however, he had seen it with his own eyes.

The lovers, together, they were just too powerful. And worse - completely out of control. Together, they were like a vortex, a burst of emotion too strong to ever be contained.

The lovers, together, they were just too powerful. And worse - completely out of control. Together, they were like a vortex, a burst of emotion too strong to ever be contained. They were complimentary opposites, weak alone and powerful together, each half that united, could create a perfect being...

...Or an absolute monstrosity.

They had to remain split.

If they could not sort out their issues, the lovers were doomed to destroy each other, and take everything along with them.

If they could not sort out their issues, the lovers were doomed to destroy each other, and take everything along with them. The General would not risky it.

Those two, however holy was their love, their lives, they were still bounded to their fragile, human minds. And, life was not kind, it never was.

Those two, however holy was their love, their lives, they were still bounded to their fragile, human minds. And, life was not kind, it never was. They were damaged. Both of them. Deeply stained by the sorrow of this world, victim of greed, anger, hatred. The General knew they were not ready to be together yet.

Not in this life, as they hadn't been for ages prior. And in this corrupted world, they would never be ready, no matter how many times they reincarnated. He was sure.

"Do it"

He stared at the Demon, who gazed back at him for a minute. He thought the guy would not comply. It wouldn't be the first time he defiled orders... But much to his surprise, he did.

The Demon lifted his Scythe, adorned with many ancient symbols. The lovers quieted for a second, screaming for each other.

"...You only want us apart? Right? Then... Just, just kill me, not my love, please, please" They both pleaded, each wanting to save the others life.

This made the demon sight, shaking his head, and give back a cold stare, right into the general's soul.

"None of you will die " He said, firmly "But you'll never be complete again"

As they stared in confusion, he lifted the scythe to the sky, and brought it down at once, between both lovers.

They both stopped fighting. They faced each other, and found nothing in their former loved one's eyes. The captors released them both, who stood where they were.

Their red thread had been thorn by the ancient scythe's blade. Nobody could see it, of course, but it was very clear that something had changed.

"It's done? " The general asked.

"Yeah" The 'Demon' replied, only he able to see the split red on the floor.

One by one, the soldiers and the general left. Now, the two former lovers were no longer a problem. Those precious souls - they were now split. Forever. They would never be one again.

The Demon stayed back.

The lovers both stared at him, then at each other, trying to recover from the shock, trying to understand or maybe find something, anything, of that amazing, familiar feeling they had for each other before.

Nothing. They were strangers.

"What... What we do now? " One of them asked, desperately hoping for an answer.

The demon shrugged

The demon shrugged "Love each other"

"We... We can't anymore"

"Of course you can" He reinforced "It's a lot of work. It's not magical. And definitely not perfect. It's not sacred, as it was before. But that's all we have"

The former lovers approached, quite shyly, and took each other's hands.

"Well... I guess I want to learn, if it is with you"

The Demon smiled. Well, they were already getting the hang of it.
