Houses rumbling, people being awoken in the middle of the night, confused, terrified. When they eventually realized what was going on, all to be heard were screams.
Screams of people who knew they were going to die. These screams will forever live on in my head, the last I ever heard of my family's voices, were those horrifying screams.
But that was a while ago. Life is different now, I've found a group of survivors and we've been sticking together ever since.. that night.
We don't really talk about that night, I mean we don't really have much time to think about it.
We always have to be on the run, constantly looking for food and shelter, just trying to stay alive.
There are so many gangs out there now, hogging all of the supplies that we barely have anything left.
Alex left a few days ago to try to find some more food, and that was the last we saw of him and we probably won't see him again. The world is a different place now.
At a time where we should be helping each other, we're instead killing each other.
"Come on Laura, we have to move," Jack said as he came in to our small shelter. "A-are they here again?"
He nodded, "let's go everyone! Stay behind me and we'll be fine."
Everyone quickly gathered our things, then we headed out, all in a line behind Jack. And as we were walking through the desert, thinking we made it out, we heard a branch crack behind us.
We turned around, and to our dismay, the whole gang who had been hunting us for these past few weeks. "Looks like you're not getting away this time, Jack," Their leader, Mark, said proudly.
Jack grabbed my hand, whispered in my ear, "I love you Laura," and that was the last time I saw him.
