A Blank Canvas

by chloeblue2

A blank canvas

is a terrifying prospect

On one hand, you could create something beautiful

On the other,

something awful

To take on a blank canvas

is to make a terrifying promise

A promise

to try and make something awe-inspiring

A promise

that puts a burden heavy on the shoulders of those who wear it

Though the task is daunting

Many still choose this path

They freely make this commitment

Because of the possibility of making

Something wonderful

Something grand

Something to make people think

Or maybe to make people stop and just enjoy life

In a moment of ever fleeting bliss

A blank canvas

is a terrifying prospect

But it is truly worth the risk.

Yes! So true. This is exactly why I write. There is a possibility that I will create something moving, powerful and worth reading, something that will inspire.

@michaelschulze @cjhale Thank you so much! I'm happy you both enjoyed my poem. I hope you are inspired to take up your own metaphorical paint brush.

@bernardtwindwil Thank you. I like to think that a true artist will take on any blank canvas just for the beautiful opportunity to create something special to them, as opposed to create something bland and ordinary with hopes for profit.

Absolutely stunning work. You captured the truth about making something new and the terrifying things in which it might entail, and the thril of it all. As an artist, I understand the feeling, and you portrayed it brilliantly.

You wrote a beautiful poem. I had always thought that most artists approached a blank canvas as, " this is needs to be a painting I can sell." The point is well taken. Great work.
