A story of a girl who wants to escape.

Escape

by chaoticteens

I sit on the dock where I spent many summers relaxing

my feet touch the cool water, and I sit, blissfully ignorant of the fighting that I can hear from fifty feet away

A bottle smashes, a scream ensues.

I run my hands through the water as I hear a car drive off. I shut my eyes. Oh, how I wish I was anywhere but here.

Silence.

I slip in the water and submerge myself. One..Two..Three..Four.. The silence is so peaceful, I feel as though I can escape everything I feel.

Serenity.

Five..Six..Seven...I come up for air. I see my brother reading a book. I see my mother crying. I go back under.

Hope.

All I have left is hope; that maybe one day I can get away from here.

OMG you just put into words a picture of what children must endure from dysfunctional parents. You your words of water to provide a crystal clear message. Your verbal imagery was so graphic that I could see and hear the water and also the silence of submersion. Ironically I employed the same behavior during war. Diving under the waves, my world became so serene that I could spend a few minutes in complete peace. You brought back those peaceful moments. Great job!!!
