The effect of technology on relationships and society

A Paradox

Ding. Another message arrives. I look to my phone and see the words on the screen. I see the name of the sender. I make a connection. I picture a face.

Ding. Another message arrives. We hide behind our screens. They are the buffer sucking up our fears, our hatred, our depression. They drain us of our bravery, our love, our joy. We are exposed by our screens.

Ding. Another message arrives. We live in a world of communication. I see friends and family walking together. They laugh vacantly, staring down at screens, silence revolves around them. We have lost the ability to communicate.

Ding. Another message arrives. I look to my computer and see the words on the screen. I see the name of the sender. I see a screen.

Ding. Another message arrives. We are more connected than ever. Everyone has their own opinion and shares it for everyone to hear, but no one listens. We are more divided than ever.

Ding. Another message arrives. There is no privacy anymore. Anyone can find anyone and learn everything without ever needing to speak. There is no relationship anymore.

Ding. Another message arrives. I see the words. I see a screen.

Ding. Another message arrives. The world is falling apart outside the windows of the screen. It is the blockade of our ability to listen, to understand, to empathize.

Ding. Another message arrives. We walk into poles, into the busy street, not caring if we live or die. And there is no one to save us.

Ding.
