A poem shortly written after falling in love.

Bird

It was as if I was a baby bird, pushed from the nest too soon

Abandoned

Adopted, yet left again by more

Flitting pointlessly

inches above the ground.

This is is all there is:

The earth is quite small.

The air polluted my lungs and made it hard to breathe

Each time a puff of oxygen seemed to come, it would be followed by tar, pouring down my throat and filling my lungs as I tried to breathe

The air is not worth breathing anymore

And I collapsed, broken

Left for dead

When I began to close my eyes and breathe the last of my oxygen from my tattered lungs, I was found

And my heart was lifted, and cleaned of the grime which had built up over the years

Carefully dusted

Tenderly held

It was as if I was a baby bird on its first flight

Soaring above the green earth and the blue waters below me

Gliding

I could see how vast the skies stretch

And how plentiful the land was

My body which was cold as death

Warmed

And the flesh became supple again

I had been resurrected

a perfect being
