It isn't death. It is the dying that I dread.

Last walk among the oaks

by bernardtwindwil

It is peaceful no need struggle to remember slowly I will proceed life a dying ember

You were my age When I was born written many a page greeted many a morn

will you miss me my treasured giant friendly old tree stood by me defiant

difficult to say goodbye I've rested in your shade you'll stand after I die my debt to you unpaid

You have been my muse typed beneath your boughs Words seemed to ooze inciting me to arouse

Passion it seemed of the same mind was oft dreamed destiny entwined

I am taking my leave comes another friend Are you able to grieve friendship at an end

I've always loved trees, and always will, what a dull planet it would be without them. Nice one, bernard.

@michaelschulze That planting of 8,000 trees is a never ending blessing. In my little town, they build the roads and sidewalks around the trees. We have many streets with a tree in the middle of it.

If only trees could talk thair tales would defie the imagination so sad when stupid local councils cut them down in the name of progress i planted over eight thousand on my farm and I hope they bring joy to others

@ameagami Thank you. My home is built around five immense 150-year-old live oaks. The rooms and roof are cut out to allow for them to grow.
