Dreams in Delft Blue

He lay there tonight in abandoned sleep

The dingy sheet draped like a dying toga

What complete freedom to cast his thoughts aside

Nothing from which to run nothing to hide

My thoughts entwined and crushing like a boa

Around my chest and my skull the serpent creeps

I envy his innocence and stupidity

Never wondering what is real or ethereal

I feel around in the dark for the herbal key

That will unlock the door of my reality

Not caring anymore what is empirical

Blythe ignorance leads to placidity

It is easier to disentangle myself

Than it is to disengage from him

Love and life are never solely cerebral

An attempt to make it so is truly feeble

All of it pointless intellectualism

Like, as you will, removing the blue from Delft
