I am a caterpillar; This flesh is my cocoon.

Cocoon

by Esther Jones

I am a caterpillar;

This flesh is my cocoon.

Someday I’ll spread my wings;

I do not know how soon.

I’ll leave this all behind:

All sadness, aches, and pains,

To fly away unfettered

By earthly bonds and chains.

Transforming, making new,

My self will liquefy,

Becoming what I’m meant to be:

A wondrous butterfly.
