Ever since I saved that town from the cruel dragon that hounded them day in and day out, I was awakened to a prophecy I cannot escape from.
Ever since I learned my first dragon shout, I was bound to a fate I did not ask for, I did not search for.
And yet, how can I deny the fate the gods have laid out for me to fulfill? How can I turn my back to everything I am meant to achieve?
If I choose not to move forward, not to go after Alduin the World-Eater, then all I know and love will be destroyed. There is no alternative, no real choice for me to pick from.
It's either life or death, survival or destruction.
Perhaps one day, many years from now, I will be able to afford a common life, with a wife and children, resting from the adventures I once experienced.
Perhaps one day I will choose to continue those adventures with no obligation or foretold destiny hanging over my head constantly.
If I am to die or give up, then all humanity will be destroyed and suffer because of my personal failures.
I doubt anyone alive today will ever understand fully the burden such a responsibility creates in my life.
Still, I know I will never give up, never surrender. One day, my destiny will be fulfilled, and then I will be free to live my life as I see fit.
