Riley sat in her window's bay stunned.
Something she never imagined would ever happen had just occurred: Maya, her best friend, the person she loved most in her entire world, had kissed her.
They had been friends for so long, she never imagined they could be anything but. Plus, they were girls, and girls were supposed to like boys, right?
And yet... just as Maya kissed her, Riley realized just how long she had been hoping for this very moment.
"Maya... what are you doing?" Riley asked, without quite knowing what to say, how to react. She stared wide-eyed at the beautiful blonde teenager, who was smiling brightly at her.
"I like you, Riley. I really like you, and I don't want to pretend I don't any longer"
Riley couldn't help but allow a smile to tug at the corner of her full lips, blushing all over, and looking deep into her best friend's big blue eyes.
"Like me-like me? Like... dating like me?"
"Hell yes," Maya replied and leaned in to kiss Riley again. This time, the kiss was longer, but also sweeter, almost longing.
Finally, Riley moved away softly, so blushed she looked like a bright red apple.
"What will my parents think?"
"In time, they'll understand... I know they will." Maya assured her, holding her hands. "I want to give us a try, Riley. Because it's always been you, and I don't want to wait any longer. So...
"Do you want to be my girlfriend?"
Riley's smile was huge now, and she squealed, hugging Maya tightly.
"Yes, I do!"
