Josh had told Maya two years ago that he'd play the long game. At 16, she was way too young for him, being in college, but now she was 18 and he was 20.
It was perfect, wasn't it? Sure, he'd soon turn 21, but it didn't matter any longer. She was all grown up now, and moving to campus after being accepted at the same college he was attending.
Maya had talked with him on the phone about the good news and texted her that morning to let him know she was arriving.
The moment she got out of the car, there he was, with a big bouquet of roses and ready to help her move into her new dorm.
Maya hugged him tightly.
"Thanks for being here for me, Josh" She thanked him, kissing his cheek tenderly.
But she wasn't a kid anymore and they both knew it. Would he keep his word now and give her a chance?
It took the two of them nearly two hours to get everything settled in her room, but finally, they were done and sitting on the staircase just outside the room, sharing a soda.
Maya gave him a quizzical look, letting her stare do the talking instead of demanding an answer to a two-year-long question, and Josh chuckled, knowing too well what was in Maya's head.
"Maya... would you like to go out on a date with me? Perhaps tonight?"
"I thought you'd never ask!" She giggled, and nodded, kissing his cheek again. She'd save their first kiss for their first date.
