Cataclysmic. That's the word I can use to explain what I unleashed today. I've never been one to claim that I set of an explosion, but I will this time.
The chain reaction of magic and technology released an insane amount of energy and with unexpected results. It killed everyone outside the blast radius. Yes, that's right, outside.
I live in a highly advanced society and we seem to be the only ones mostly unaffected. The city is safe but everything outside the limits is alien.
Not only did we manage to kill everyone, the world is barren. I was attempting mass teleportation combining the artifacts and greatest technology we had to offer. Oh shit, company.
"What have you done!" The slam of the Tembo's steps echo and shake the lab.
"I've been trying to figure that out Kigata." I am not about to be flattened by the trunk nose for another failed experiment.
"You and your experiments Karasu, If I weren't indebted to you I'd bare the disgrace of murder." Kigata stomped again and shoved over some experiments I forgot I even had up here.
"For that you shall be honored. Do you want to know what I did?"
"Honestly I want to know how you expect to fix it." A Tembo's crossed arms are a warning, their patience is waning.
"Well... Here's the thing... I don't think I can." Every muscle of mine primed itself for the impending charge.
"What do you mean? It is chaos at the walls. One moment we are doing routine drills, next we're in this stomping ground." I forget Kigata is the captain of the guard here in town.
That's probably why he always checks in on me...
"I was trying to teleport the city--"
"YOU WERE WHAT?" The Large Tembo finally lost his patience.
I slid and ducked over my table narrowly avoiding the tusk of the Tembo. Kigata pulled the wreckage off his left tusk and turned to me.
"How could that have been a good idea? You could have killed everyone!" Tembo, when angry flare their trunks and ears. It's rather terrifying.
"I didn't kill anyone in the city, as far as I can tell." I do own the best vantage point in the city just for that reason. No, not for killing people. It's for making sure I don't kill anyone!
"Gah! So what now Karasu... I suppose you want to go out and explore, don't you?" His scowl was obvious, I think that means it's a bad idea to go out there...
"Can we Kigata? I promise I'll be good! I won't try to mass teleport anymore!"
The sound of the trunk hitting Kigata's forehead confuses me. I have yet to figure out what that means. He finally waved on.
"No teleporting. At All." He left my lab shaking his head, I wonder if that's good or not.
After scurrying around grabbing the essentials and the non-essential, I hurried down the stairs ready for adventure.
