What began as just a thought kept going. I am just so disturbed about the things I am seeing and reading about on a daily basis, but this in particular is about our young people.
It’s really gotten to me more than I thought it did. Read or don’t read, it doesn’t matter to me. I just had to get these thoughts out of my head.
It’s a real shame when our African American youth idolize and aspire to be either ratchet reality stars or rappers. Be bad bitches and thugs.
Young women not having any respect for themselves and young men who see that and disrespect them because the females allow it and the males exploit and prey on them.
These young men impregnating multiple women without taking on the responsibility of being a father to the child physically,
emotionally and financially and the women who allow themselves to get pregnant by multiple men without the benefit of marriage or at least a monogamous committed relationship.
There are way too many youth out here who have no respect for one another and definitely have no respect for their parents, teachers, people in authority or basically anyone.
Worldstar, Youtube, social media sites, snapchat, and many more sites have been used as venues to publicize brutality, crimes, and a host of other actions that should not even be taking place.
All for the glory of how many views they got. How many likes they got. How many reposts, re-tweets, regrams they got.
What ever happened to courting/dating and taking the time to get to know one another to see if you are compatible before having sex within the first few hours or days after meeting?
What ever happened to wanting to make a positive change in our world by becoming an activist or civil rights leader? Becoming a doctor, lawyer or entrepreneur of a successful business?
What happened to respecting your parents, teachers, people of authority and people in general? There are no repercussions.
Way too many of our young people are running rampant and in a lot of cases they are terrorizing communities.
We can’t control everything our young adults do, everything they watch, and every website they go to, but we can teach them to respect themselves.
Respect others and show them there are consequences for their negative, destructive and criminal actions and behaviors.
We can show our youth that there is more to aspire to than this ratchness that is promoted in the media and on radio.
We can show our young ladies how to properly dress themselves and carry themselves and not to tolerate disrespect from young men.
We can show these young men the proper way to treat young ladies and the proper way to speak to young ladies.
We can take our children to museums, parks, play sports with them, go camping, watch plays in the theaters, art exhibits, college campuses and so many other places of culture and learning.
We can spend time with our children and have conversations, not just talk at them. I don’t blame the children, I blame the parents. Training starts when they are young and it starts at home.
