The Devil Men

Their eyes finally met for the first time since the sinister demand was made.

The two men were about ten feet away from each other, their bodies trembled like anxious dogs and tears ran down their blood-dirt covered faces.

Jose broke away from the stare of the man who had suddenly become his enemy.

He was hopeless about changing the circumstances of his situation with the real threat, the dozen or so men with assault rifles. He could only do what they say and hope for some compassion.

He thought about how unlikely it was that he along with his family would live past this day, but he still held on to some hope. How unfortunate that he was hoping for compassion from devil men.

He looked at his family.

“I love you,” he said to them, “I need you to have hope. Everything will be okay.” A few of the devil men laughed.

“Damn, I hope you don’t get fucked up!” a dwarfish devil man said and the rest laughed again except for one. His face never moved and he wore a business suit.

The others were in casual clothes, some of them dirty even. The formally dressed man was obviously the leader of the rest, but he spoke the fewest words.

A gunshot exploded in the air and snapped the two new enemies to attention.

“I really don’t want to do this. Please don’t make me do this,” the man opposite Jose said almost incoherently, behind a weeping voice.

The tears of his face met the gooey liquid falling from his nose. He took a deep breath. “Our families are here. Please just have some compassion!”

One of the devil men aimed his rifle at the broken, begging man. “Fight or I will fuck the life out of your family in front of your fucking face.” The other devil men laughed.

”Well? Get on with it,” the dwarfish devil man commanded.

Jose saw the jeans of his new sobbing enemy darken as he pissed himself when one of the devil men threw him a lead pipe. He looked at his family again.

His teenage son watched expressionless as his body trembled and his wife held back long wild sobs at fear of being shot. Their eyes carried with them the depth of the situation.

“I will see you again,” he said to them, and he fell to the floor with the crushing blow of the lead pipe.

His enemy sobbed as he continued to smash in the head of the lifeless body sprawled across the dirt floor.
