The Hillary's America story reminded me of this golden oldie, so I'd thought I'd share. This was circa late 2008 when the movie Milk (about Harvey Milk) was fairly recentish. My theatre had played the theatre for 2 or 3 weeks, but we had recently stopped showing it. No agenda.

My Theatre Just Wasn't SOPHISTICATED Enough

The Hillary's America story reminded me of this golden oldie, so I'd thought I'd share.

This was circa late 2008 when the movie Milk (about Harvey Milk) was fairly recentish. My theatre had played the theatre for 2 or 3 weeks, but we had recently stopped showing it. No agenda.

No ulterior motive. The movie just wasn't busy enough to keep for longer than we'd already been showing it.

Enter Sophisticated Man (SM). A lot of this story really hinges on the way this guy talked and moved.

Imagine a very, very stereotypical homosexual male mixed with one of those rich and conceited villains from 90's kids movies. Really snooty, nose held high kind of guy.

I was just walking down the hallway when SM approached me and demanded to know why we weren't showing Milk. I explained we had carried the movie, but it left about a week ago.

"Hmph," he says. "And WHY aren't you showing the MetOp?" Referring to the Metropolitan Opera events shown by theatres aligned with Fathom Events, which we weren't. Which I explained to SM.

"Harumph," he scoffed. "I guess I'll just have to go to a SOPHISTICATED theatre.

" He then, kid you not, placed his hands behind his back, arched his back, did a stiff about face, and walked right of out of the theatre with is nose literally held up high. It was amazing.
