A few years ago I worked at this old theatre (in business for 40+ years) that became a discount theatre after a major movie theatre company built one in our town.
On one seemingly decent Friday I was working the evening for the last two showings.
Now normally matinee starts melting an insert (a litre of butter fit into one butter pump insert) for the evening before clocking out but they must have forgotten or was lazy.
I was scheduled to work concession with one other coworker and we had one usher then one person in box office. At most we would get maybe 800 people across all 4 showings if it was busy.
My shift starts and my co-worker and I were setting up and making sure everything was stocked and for some reason unlike all the other shifts I had worked,
neither of us checked how much butter we had and that alone ruined the whole night.
We managed to get through the first showing without any problems and while setting up for the last showing my coworker went to help the usher clean the theatres since setting up only took
maybe 20min at most and then it was pretty much standing around from there.
While making sure everything was good to go for the next showing I checked on the butter and all that was left was what coated the inside.
The customers started rolling in soon after and it was impossible to run over to the fridge and start melting butter so we would have been decent.
This night was a lot busier than previous Fridays. As the customers asked for their popcorn I apologized and informed them we were out of butter.
Most people were pretty cool about it and ordered their popcorn anyway, some were disappointed and passed on the popcorn, but this one couple just wasn't having it.
The husband starts to rant about how unacceptable this was and how he wanted a discount on his popcorn.
Now the popcorn was around $10 for the large but if you wanted butter you would have to pay an extra $0.99.
We had a station customers could access near concession with melted margarine but obviously most people preferred the real thing.
after informing him he would not be able to get a discount he got even more upset and started hassling me and calling this theatre cheap and was sarcastically asking if the straws
or napkins were $1 each too and at this point his wife is joining in saying how we should be ashamed of ourselves.
At this point the line is getting longer and I'm looking around praying my coworker will show up to help the cuatomers behind this couple.
The husband demanded to speak to my manager to which I tell him the manager is the one working in box office and he starts going on about how I should be fired for this sort of thing
and hopes we go out of business soon then storms off with his wife.
I was just so done with customers at this point and about 5min later my coworker shows up and I inform her about the butter and the night goes about as usual without anymore outbursts
I don't know if the guy ever went to my manager or sent an email to corporate but the manager knew we ran out of butter (informed him while we were cleaning concession) and just said shit
TL;DR: Butter worshipping couple think it's doomsday when there's none left.
