I was scouring the woods, hoping to trap a hare for dinner.

In that cave were piles of jewels and chests of gold coins.

In that cave were piles of jewels and chests of gold coins. I could not believe my luck, and I eagerly picked up one of the gems.

Then, from the cave's darkness emerged a bearded dwarf.

He raised his hand, intending to strike me down,

It was these teeth that he used on the dwarf.

It was these teeth that he used on the dwarf. As soon as the dwarf lay lifeless on the cave floor, the bear transformed into a prince!

The dwarf had cursed him and stolen his treasure,

The dwarf had cursed him and stolen his treasure, and the only thing that could break his curse was if he killed the thief.

The prince thanked me profusely,

The prince thanked me profusely, saying that if I had not taken him in during the winter, he would have frozen and died.

He would not have had the chance to find his enemy and return to his true form.

He would not have had the chance to find his enemy and return to his true form. Furthermore, he would not have found the love of his life-me.

It happened in the summer, our wedding.

It happened in the summer, our wedding. And in the same season of the next year, we welcomed out first-born.
