Modified villanelle. My spirit strong, my mind resilient steel. From having lived through trials, now I know...

Solo | Steel

Solo | This modified villanelle is part of 'Solo,' a collection of nine poems dedicated to the concept of isolation, solitude and individuality.

Solo | Steel

My spirit strong, my mind resilient steel.

My spirit strong, my mind resilient steel. From having lived through trials, now I know

My spirit strong, my mind resilient steel. There is no shame in what my heart can feel.

When daylight first misplaced its bright appeal,

When daylight first misplaced its bright appeal, I nearly thought it best to keep below

My spirit strong, my mind resilient steel.

And then the embers burned to make me kneel

And then the embers burned to make me kneel Before the fire that brought me down, although

There is no shame in what my heart can feel.

When they decided I should be ideal,

When they decided I should be ideal, I too deduced to never say or show

My spirit strong, my mind resilient steel.

But my desire was harder to conceal,

But my desire was harder to conceal, So break the mold, I did, and told my foe:

There is no shame in what my heart can feel.

All things once doubted, now I've proven real,

All things once doubted, now I've proven real, And all that's left for me to do is grow

My spirit strong, my mind resilient steel.

There is no shame in what my heart can feel. My spirit strong, my mind resilient steel.

END
