Blank verse. Awaken not the cobra 'neath my skin, for it will strike when prodded to defend its home against the monster in your eyes...

Solo | Monster

Solo | This blank verse piece is part of 'Solo,' a collection of nine poems dedicated to the concept of isolation, solitude and individuality.

Awaken not the cobra 'neath my skin

Awaken not the cobra 'neath my skin For it will strike when prodded to defend

For it will strike when prodded to defend Its home against the monster in your eyes

Its home against the monster in your eyes With deadly venom from its dagger fangs.

Tempt not the locusts in my heart, for they

Tempt not the locusts in my heart, for they Shall also rally forth to guard their house.

Shall also rally forth to guard their house. Beware the thorns that grace their fragile limbs,

Beware the thorns that grace their fragile limbs, Adept at drawing rivulets of blood.

Take care it's not the spider that you cross

Take care it's not the spider that you cross Lest you aspire to dwell within its web

Lest you aspire to dwell within its web Of everlasting helplessness, and fear

Of everlasting helplessness, and fear The day your monster succumbs to revenge.

The scorpion stings the monster when provoked

The scorpion stings the monster when provoked 'Til it is locked in never-ending pain

'Til it is locked in never-ending pain And writhing 'pon the grass, its weary limbs

And writhing 'pon the grass, its weary limbs All paralyzed beyond much hope or help.

Beware the beastly beauty that I am

Beware the beastly beauty that I am Your darkest nightmare wrapped in glitter dreams.

Your darkest nightmare wrapped in glitter dreams. The gentle bird that rests upon your breast

The gentle bird that rests upon your breast Might someday eat the monster that you are.

Might someday eat the monster that you are.
