Just thought I'd post a short, fluffy, romantic oneshot for the daily prompt before moving on to more poetry. A boy and a girl on a picnic at the park.

Little Critter

"I don't get it!" he said. "It's taking the seeds from you, but not me. Is my face really that ugly?"

She rolled her eyes before hunkering down at his side.

She rolled her eyes before hunkering down at his side. She took some of the sunflower seeds that he was holding in his hand and lined them up in front of his knees.

"It's not because of you, silly," she told him. "It's just scared because you keep trying to shove food in its face. Try being patient and getting it to trust you first."

So he tried.

So he tried. He watched patiently and silently as the little squirrel with red fur poked its head out of a hole in the tree.

So he tried. He watched patiently and silently as the little squirrel with red fur poked its head out of a hole in the tree. It skittered over the rough bark and hopped onto the green grass.

Little by little, it scurried towards him, popping one seed after another into its mouth.

Little by little, it scurried towards him, popping one seed after another into its mouth. And after a few minutes, it finally perched on his lap and feasted on the seeds scattered over his jeans.

He turned his head towards her and grinned. "This is so cool! Thanks for helping me out."

"You're welcome," she replied. "It's not anything to brag about though."

His eyes widened. "Of course, it is. That's how you got me."

"Oh really?" she asked with a little laugh.

He leaned forward and kissed her cheek before she could move away.

He leaned forward and kissed her cheek before she could move away. As far as he was concerned, it was true.

He leaned forward and kissed her cheek before she could move away. As far as he was concerned, it was true. She'd earned his trust by being patient with him, which was why he loved her so.

"Really."

END Thank you for reading! I'll try to post a new poem this Sunday. A little busy right now, so I'll probably put something up only once a week until further notice.
