Once Beautiful Land

Anna Martin-Hill

What was once a beautiful land Oh, the lovely lights in the sky And all of the children playing The birds twittering around Their heads held high in the sky

But a quick turn deceived them Greedy rulers from distant lands Corrupted from power’s tight grasp Minds filled with nothing but grey-green

That once beautiful land Dim grey lights in the sky The children frowning in misery and boredom The birds all gone, away from the dull Their beauty praised in another place
