Friendship

Anna Martin-Hill

A chain linking us together A sign of our strong friendship Little by little While you aren’t looking I slowly chip away at the metals

One day CLINK! The chain falls onto the floor You look at me with your hurt little eyes And I don’t feel any guilt Only laughter rages in me

Days after days I ponder about my thoughts You weren’t so bad after all A fresh start, perhaps? It would spice things up for the both of us

And so Little by little I mend the chain back together I watch your careful eyes stare at my hands Do you believe I’ve changed? Or is that not possible for me?

I see in the distant future Our chain is linked again Stronger than before Your face and your eyes shining bright Looking forward As if you don’t see me chipping away at the chains again
