A bleak poem about the meaninglessness of trying.

Meaningless

From childhood they tell us:

Be yourself!

Be unique!

Be who YOU want to be!

As they shove us into a mold.

We show our colors, as they ask us to,

We show our colors, as they ask us to, then they punish us for coloring

outside the lines,

outside the lines, outside what they want.

"We accept all!"

"We accept all!" they say,

and it's true

and it's true (to some degree)

as, like a factory,

everything that comes in comes out the same

as the rest.

and for self-expression

and we are punished

and we are punished as there is no room

for such meaningless

for such meaningless noise

in a world of blaring instructions.

so we must be quiet

lest we anger the audio

lest we anger the audio outside

and wither away quietly in our homes.

work

work work

work work work

until our lives

until our lives are nothing more

than another whisper

joining the chorus.

"be like us," they say. "stop resisting. it's meaningless."

joining the cacophony

of meaningless

of meaningless words

of meaningless words of meaningless

of meaningless words of meaningless work

of meaningless words of meaningless work of meaningless

lives
